SCHOOL & LIBRARY TALKS
Interested in booking an author talk?
I love sharing my work and my passion for visual storytelling to groups of all ages, from the youngest of students to adult audiences. I am local to the Washington DC area, but available to travel to your school, library, or book festival. I have given presentations at high schools, middle schools, elementary school, colleges, and graduate programs and am happy to tailor a presentation, workshop or demonstration to your specific program. My author talk explores the creative process and how I went from writing fairytale comics to drawing from my personal history as an American child living internationally to create my graphic memoir Passport. I discuss how I draw, write, and mine my life for ideas for both my long form graphic novels as well as my short comics. My talks celebrate the power of comics as devices for deep connection and delve deep into how one can develop a point of view when writing personal histories.

Testimonials
“My MFA students loved Sophia’s presentation. She demystified the career of a cartoonist and graphic novelist, sharing her wisdom and process working in the comics industry. Her warmth and humor engaged even my most withdrawn students, inspiring them to develop their own visual stories.”
—Anna Raff, Illustrator & Professor, School of Visual Arts
“I would highly recommend Sophia Glock for anyone looking for an amazing guest speaker. I am an English as a Second Language teacher and am always looking for ways to inspire my students and make them see all the wonderful opportunities that life can afford them. One student got up the courage to ask her a question in Spanish and Sophia answered in perfect Spanish. From that moment on, she had them. To this end, I had Sophia Glock come and speak to them about her work and her life story. Sophia did an amazing job bridging cultural divides and inspiring my students. Many of them saw themselves in her and her story. It took about a month for students to stop asking me questions about Sophia and if she could come back again!”
—Kevin Heise, ESL Teacher, Elizabeth Davis Middle School
“[Her] presentation was both inspiring and touched on the realities of being a cartoonist.”
—Sarah Shaw, Cartoonist & Professor, School of Visual Arts
